What do I need to know before getting a tattoo?

Do not rush into getting your body art done. A tattoo should be considered permanent. Although tattoos can be removed, it is very expensive and your skin will never be the same as it was. Never let your friends or backyard scratchers tattoo you, as you could end up with something you may regret and need to have covered up or even worse – HEPATITIS or HIV.  Think before you ink, a good tattoo isn’t cheap, a cheap tattoo isn’t good.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes. We require a $100 deposit to book an appointment. We require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice if you want to cancel or postpone an appointment but more notice is appreciated. Any less and you will lose your deposit.

Yes, preferably. However, from time to time we do have walk-in appointments available.

Can I bring along my own design or idea?

Most definitely.

How much does it cost?

Our tattoos start at $180.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash or EFTPOS.

Does it hurt?

Everyone is different, and the level of discomfort can vary greatly from one person to the next. To make your experience as enjoyable as possible, we recommend that you eat well, get some rest and make sure you’re feeling good and are in a good state of mind before you come in for your tattoo.

Is it safe?

Yes, absolutely! At Reilly Tattoo your safety is our number one priority. All of our needles are used just once and disposed of in accordance with Health Department regulations. All other instruments are either single use or they are ultrasonically cleaned, scrubbed, rinsed, individually bagged and autoclave sterilised. (Our autoclave unit is regularly calibrated as per WA Health Department guidelines.)

In addition, we cover all equipment with disposable plastic covers and replace the covers for each individual client to further prevent cross-contamination.

How do I prepare for my body art?

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before appointment; alcohol in your bloodstream tends to increase bleeding during application.
  • On the day of your appointment make sure that you have eaten and had enough to drink (not alcohol) so that you are not dehydrated.
  • Dress appropriately, if the tattoo is on your thigh wear shorts or a skirt.
  • Let your artist know if you want changes to your design before the day of your tattoo.
  • Please ring the studio if you’re going to be late.
  • We know tattoos hurt, but we need you to stay still, as if you move around your tattoo will take longer, cost you more and won’t be as good as it could have been. So try and distract your mind from the pain, count things in the room or try breathing exercises to help you relax during your tattoo. Remember short is the pain, long is the pride.

How do I care for my tattoo?

Having made the decision to be tattooed the after care is very important as to making sure your tattoo heals well.

We have taken all the necessary steps to make sure your tattoo has been well applied artistically and hygienically, now the rest is up to you.

  • Wash your tattoo when you get home in clean, warm running water. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. Do not rub or scratch. Wait 30 minutes to allow excess water in the new tattoo to evaporate and inflammation to subside a little. Apply Bepanthen or Papaw cream evenly over the freshly tattooed skin. Use only as much as the skin will absorb. Do not leave a thick film on the surface.
  • Do not pick or scratch at your new tattoo, this will slow the healing time and you may pull the ink out, also it may lead to secondary infections.
  • Do not wear tight clothing over the tattoo, or clothing that has been washed in harsh detergents.
  • During the healing period avoid swimming or soaking the tattoo for the first two weeks. You may wash the tattoo daily in the shower. Definitely do not expose the tattoo to the sun for the first two weeks. Your tattoo will always look brighter if you avoid having them exposed to the sun’s harmful UV rays. If you must go in the sun apply a total sunblock, only after the tattoo has healed.
  • Do not let anyone touch the tattoo while it’s healing. Apply Bepanthen/Papaw cream 2 to 3 times a day for the first 2 weeks. Keep up the aftercare for at least this period. If you have any cream left, it wouldn’t hurt to keep applying as normal, even if your tattoo appears fully healed.
  • If you have any concerns do not hesitate to call the studio with your queries, sooner, rather than later.
